Our Recommendation

Based on your answers, here are the best devices for you:

What to Look For

When choosing a MeshCore device, consider these factors:

Use Case

  • Phone companion: The device stays in your pocket or bag and connects to the MeshCore App on your phone via Bluetooth. You interact through the app. Smaller, simpler devices work well here.
  • Standalone: The device has its own screen and buttons. You can send and receive messages without a phone. Useful when you want a dedicated communicator.
  • Repeater: A device placed at a fixed, elevated location to extend network coverage. Prioritize durability, low power consumption, and solar charging capability.

Key Specifications

  • Frequency band: Must be 868 MHz for Europe
  • LoRa chip: SX1262 is the current standard, offering better range and lower power than the older SX1276
  • GPS: Useful for location sharing and outdoor use; not required for basic messaging
  • Battery: Larger batteries mean longer operation. For portable use, 1000 mAh or more is recommended.
  • Display: OLED screens are common on standalone devices. Not needed for companion or repeater use.
  • Enclosure: Some devices come in weather-resistant cases. For outdoor repeater deployments, a separate enclosure is usually needed.

Price Range

MeshCore devices range from approximately EUR 15 to EUR 80:

  • Budget (EUR 15-25): Basic boards without case or battery. Good for companion mode or indoor testing.
  • Mid-range (EUR 25-50): Devices with display, battery, and case. Suitable for everyday portable use.
  • Premium (EUR 50-80): Ruggedized devices, GPS-equipped boards, or repeater-optimized hardware with solar charging.
